Choosing the best health insurance company for you and your family can be a confusing and time consuming process. You can find a ton of options in the market, but the needs of every individual can vary so making a selection can be incredibly difficult. When you have to evaluate health insurance companies, there are numerous factors you consider. Amongst the options you will come across, one is SelectHealth insurance. A not-for-profit health insurance firm, SelectHealth operates in Idaho and Utah. The company is integrated with Intermountain Healthcare and provides individual and family plans, along with Medicare, group and dental coverage.

The roots of the company can be traced back to 1975 when Intermountain Healthcare was created. The newly formed healthcare provider received a total of 15 hospitals in Utah in donation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. A health insurance branch was opened by the company in the 1990s, which was renamed in 2006 as Selecthealth. As mentioned above, the company is offering a range of affordable insurance plans for families as well as individuals. You can also find supplemental coverage and employee-sponsored plans. Thousands of people across Idaho and Utah use their health insurance services today.

Along with the Intermountain Healthcare system, SelectHealth also partners with a number of other providers for an extended network. The headquarters of the company are located in Murray, Utah, but they also have a second office that’s based in Meridian, Idaho.

Offerings

SelectHealth offers insurance plans to individuals and also through employer group plans. They also write Medicaid and Medicare plans, along with dental insurance and CHIP. Let’s take a look at their offerings:

1. Individual health plans

Three different network options are available with SelectHealth’s plans. Coverage all over Idaho is provided under SelectHealth Idaho, coverage all over Utah is available with Select Med and there is a network of providers available in a small part of Utah and around the Salt Lake City with Select Value. You can find health insurance plans at all levels, including gold, silver and bronze and you can even get catastrophic coverage. With SelectHealth, you can get both HSA and traditional plans and the company also offers Benchmark and transitional plans.

2. Medicare

The company’s Medicare Advantage program is known as SelectHealth Advantage. This is an HMO that uses the provider network of the company for services. There are two plan options available here, which are Enhanced and Essential. Both of them are zero deductible plans. The Enhanced plan comes with a primary care copay of $5 whereas the Essential one has $10 copay. The former also has a monthly premium for lower out-of-pocket costs and lower out-of-pocket limits.

3. Medicaid and CHIP

The company also offers plans to people who fulfill the income requirements to qualify for CHIP and Medicaid programs. The Medicaid program known as Community Care is provided in only select counties in Utah.

4. Dental

As far as the dental plans are concerned, there are two options available. There is the in-network only plan and you can also get access to non-network providers with the buy-up option. As far as deductibles for the plans are concerned, they are $50 for individual and $100 for family. You can get more comprehensive coverage under the traditional plan whereas the buy-up plan has higher out-of-pocket costs. There are several network options also available, but they are all based in Utah.

SelectHealth has had the distinction of being singled out as a model healthcare system by former President Barack Obama in 2009. It is a solid choice that can suit the budgets and needs of most people who want quality health insurance.
